Toxic Substance & Disease Exposure
Throughout a police officer’s career there are many times when he/she will be required to enter an area unexpectedly, whether it be into a residence, place of business, or some other type of property. In entering any place unexpectedly, an officer may be exposed to a highly contagious diseases or toxic substances. At Ballin & Associates, our Massachusetts police injury lawyers represent officers who have been injured by toxic substances or disease exposure. We are highly familiar with this area of the law, and use our knowledge and expertise to help our clients obtain compensation for their injuries.

In cases where an officer acquires a contagious disease after responding to a call for help, the officer may have an injury claim against the caller for failing to warn him about the disease so that he could have taken the proper precaution. In cases of toxic substances, the person or business whose duty it is to carefully handle such substances may be held liable. They have a legal and ethical obligation to prevent the public from coming into contact with these substances. If the responsible person negligently fails to handle and/or control the toxic substances, then they will be held liable for the putting the officer in harm’s way.

Getting seriously sick or burned is not part of an officer’s job. A serious injury or illness can put an officer out of work for long periods of time, causing the officer to lose essential income. In addition, depending on the severity of the illness or injury, an officer may no longer be able to conduct their daily activities, and may be required to quit their job, or transfer to a less fulfilling position in the department, or retire early.

When an officer becomes ill or injured as the result of a toxic substance or disease exposure, the officer deserves to be compensated. At Ballin & Associates, we devote ourselves and practice to building strong and compelling cases for injured or ill police officers. Our Massachusetts police injury lawyers investigate the scene at which the officer became sick or injured, and gather convincing evidence and information to present before a judge. Most importantly, we are devoted to protecting our clients’ best interest, and making sure they receive the compensation they deserve.
